The 39-year-old Kihei woman involved in a vehicle collision on Sept. 19 on North Kihei Road has died, police said on Sunday.

The operator of the red 2015 Nissan Altima sedan involved in the collision has been identified as Denise Douglas, who succumbed to her injuries at 7:03 p.m. Saturday at Maui Memorial Medical Center, police said. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition after the collision.

Around 2:48 a.m. Sept. 19 the Nissan sedan was traveling north on North Kihei Road at a high rate of speed and crossed the center line. The operator attempted to swerve back, causing the sedan to enter in a yaw and cross back to the right dirt shoulder, where the sedan collided into the fence on the right side of the roadway, police said.  The sedan then began to roll and the operator was ejected from the sedan.

This is Maui County’s 13th traffic fatality of 2023, compared to 16 at the same time last year.
